"Listen. Are you breathing just a little
and calling it a life?"

Nicola Doughty (she/her)
I'm an experienced educator and therapist with over 25 years of experience helping people work through their toughest problems using an integrated trauma-informed approach of existential, narrative and attachment theories.
All humans face challenges, and I enjoy co-creating a non-judgmental space where genuine, magical 'a-ha' moments occur. I'm committed to assisting individuals and families to work through any areas in which they find themselves stuck.
As the mom of a teenager, I've learned much about patience, humility and laughter. I'm an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast, and have spent the past 18 months exploring the world of roller derby.

Family
A family, no matter what its constellation, is a complex interlacing of relationships that deserve attention and careful tending.
Children/youth live within the family system, and need the help of their caregivers to work through areas of challenge. It is tempting to want to "fix" the child or youth; however, we first need to understand what the behaviour is communicating, and then understand how the family system keeps that behaviour lodged in place.
Working with the whole family allows for all members to connect and collaborate, with the goals of developing stronger and healthier relationships.
Sessions are 60 minutes.

Presentations
When parents are motivated to learn more about the lives of their kids, it can be helpful to do so within a communal setting with other parents with shared interests. When we're learning about emotional, behavioural or learning issues, the goal is to understand yourself and your child(ren) and teen(s) from the inside out. Knowing that you are not alone in this is often empowering.
A variety of topics are available for PAC meetings, educational or health care professional development, or any group with shared concerns, and they can be tailored to your particular community's needs.
Presentations are 75-90 minutes.
